Here are a few a few quick answers to the more common questions

FAQ | Star Training Overview

Star Training is a video-based series of education designed to improve the experiences and culture of youth sports with a focus on safety and sportsmanship.

The Star-Certified Umpire program is primarily designed for new or less experienced umpires.  The program’s primary goal is to accelerate the newer umpire’s ability to effectively manage and officiate his or her game.

Great! A solid umpires clinic is an important starting point for your umpiring experience.  We highly encourage you to attend umpire clinics every year to refine your technique. But,the Star-Certified Umpire program focuses on techniques and tips umpires use to effectively manage and officiate their games.

No. The Star-Certified Umpire program is meant to complement a proper umpire clinic. In a typical umpire clinic, students learn what mechanics and movements umpires use during their games. For instance, clinics teach how to signal strikes, where to stand, and where to move during a play.

The Star Certified Umpire program focuses on practical and theoretical reasons WHY umpires do what they do. Think of Star Training as more of a mentorship program.  (i.e., Why we check gear, how to conduct a plate meeting, what you should focus on during games).
